Mission

The Conejo Valley Branch MTAC MISSION aligns closely with the mission of the State MTAC. Our mission is to advance the music education standards; conduct ourselves with the highest moral standards and respect toward our fellow teachers, students, and the community; and develop and promote our branch activities, thus maintaining the highest teaching standards as well as artistic growth. We are dedicated to helping students fulfill their highest musical potential.

History

The Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC) is a professional music organization founded and incorporated in 1897 to promote the welfare of the music teachers and to elevate the educational and teaching standards of its members.

The Conejo Valley Branch of the MTAC was chartered with 12 members in April 1966 and has since grown to include about 90 members. It serves teachers and their students in the Thousand Oaks, Newbury Park, Westlake Village, Agoura Hills, Simi Valley, and Moorpark areas. We are a moderate sized branch. However, we are proud to share that we are one of the most active branches in all of the state of California. Our membership includes music teachers with private studios, instructors at private and public schools, and college professors. Our members teach myriad disciplines, including piano, strings, winds, voice, composition, and theory. The Conejo Valley Branch actively sponsors special programs and concerts, which students and community members may attend. In addition, students have numerous opportunities to perform at various festivals or to compete in adjudicated events.

The exacting qualifications for membership lead to accredited, qualified, professional status of the members. The promotion of high qualifications for MTAC membership thereby ensures high standards of teaching by the members and excellence in music education for the students.
