Please pay for a recital time block here and include your confirmed recital day/time request at the time of payment in the "Additional Information" box. Private Studio recitals are generally reserved in 2-hour time blocks at a $100 rate.  Please enter a quantity of "4"  for your 2-hour reservation.   • MTAC Conejo Valley presents its students in recitals featuring the compositions of women composers. Registration: Please mail all entries to Ann Erwin Ann Erwin P.O. Box 6904 Thousand Oaks, CA 91359 All entries must be postmarked by September 19, 2023. All entries should include:
    • Name of Student
    • Instrument
    • Title of the piece or movements
    • Composer of the piece with dates
    • Accompanist name, if applicable

  • Synopsis: The Advanced Contemporary Music Festival encourages the performance of Contemporary style works of the last 100 years. The composer must have been alive during the last 100 years and must exhibit 20th-21st century compositional techniques, including, pointillism, serialism, modes and contrived scales, polyrhythm, polytonality, etc. Each year the preliminary festival is judged by a panel of 3 stellar adjudicators. Those students scoring high enough are invited to play at the Gold Medal Festival held 2 weeks following at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza.   • Synopsis: The non‐competitive Early Level Contemporary Music Festival (ELCF) provides beginning through intermediate-level students an opportunity to perform 20th and 21st‐century repertoire in a public recital before a qualified judge.  Students gain valuable experience by playing in a formal setting, which helps to prepare them for the more competitive Advanced Contemporary Music Festival in later years.   • In the spring, the Conejo Valley Branch of the Music Teachers’ Association of California (MTAC), in affiliation with the Southern California Junior Bach Festival (SCJBF), holds a Junior Bach Festival.  The Junior Bach Festival is a series of competitive recitals featuring exclusively the keyboard music of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 -1750).
  • The MTAC Conejo Valley Branch Chamber Music program is an alternative or preparatory recital program for piano four hands, vocal soloists, string soloists, winds/brass soloists, and chamber ensembles made up of any combination of instruments. It is meant to mirror the MTAC State VOCE competition without the high level rigor needed for the State VOCE competition. The registration for the Chamber Music Festival closes November 11, 2023. The MTAC State VOCE is enrolled only on the MTAC State website. Registration for the State VOCE events opens on November 1st and closes December 1st of each year. Teachers registering students for the MTAC Conejo Valley Chamber Music Festival can find the application link and pay for fees in the Teacher Portal. The MTAC Conejo Valley Branch runs this festival.

  • Application Link:  Early Level Baroque/Classical Festival The Early Level Baroque/Classical Festival (ELBCF) provides an encouraging performance experience of 18th and early 19th Century music for students at the Preparatory through Fifth Level of study. It further promotes the appreciation and understanding of these two important classical styles through an evaluation by a qualified judge.
  • “KOOLFEST MTAC!” is a popular-music event which promotes “pop” musical styles, such as jazz, ragtime, new age, rock and musical theatre, usually of the 20th and 21st century. A pop rendition of a classical piece would also qualify under this category. Students of all disciplines and at all levels are provided an opportunity to perform before a live audience and be critiqued by a qualified judge. Koolfest Application Event Information:

  • Festimantic presents MTAC Conejo Valley students performing on YouTube’s global stage. Students upload their video performances of music from the Romantic and Impressionistic eras to YouTube where their performances are viewed and evaluated by three international judges.
  • Entry Requirements:
    • Eligibility:  All ages and levels
    • Entry Fee:  $5 per student
    • Entry Deadline:  9 days prior to the event
    Teachers must submit the name, age and approximate CM level for all participating students. Complete and accurate titles, composer names and timings of the composition are also due by the entry deadline.
